Can I put fruit in the breakfast shake?

Question:

"Can I put fruit in the breakfast shake?"

Short Answer:

You CAN put fruit in your shake though you may see better results if you leave it out. Occasionally though, especially organic berries, putting fruit in your shake is perfectly viable.

Longer Answer:

Fruit is inherently healthy as a whole. It contains vitamins, fiber, and anti-oxidants so why don't we put it in our Fat-Burning Breakfast Shake??? Although healthy, fruit contains sugar (fructose) and even though it's all natural, it can sabotage our success.

The key words to the breakfast shake are "Fat-Burning". When we consume food, especially carbohydrates, our insulin/blood sugar levels spike. Insulin spikes to help shuttle glucose to our cells for energy. However, when blood sugar levels are higher, we have a harder time burning fat. So if we can keep levels from spiking too much, by eating a more lower-carb breakfast, we have the ability to burn more fat and calories. Plus, our body's fat-burning hormones are naturally highest in the morning, so pairing this lower-carb breakfast with our body's natural ability to burn fat, can help expedite our results.

Fruit is absolutely healthy for you and can be consumed in our plan...but perhaps more as a secondary snack. You can read more about the reasoning behind this here.
