Q: What equipment is required for the Old School Muscle (OSM) workouts?

In it's most basic form, the program can be done with just a pair of adjustable dumbbells (DBs) and a bench. Although access to a gym is more ideal, we have many program members doing OSM at home with basic equipment.

That said, it is essential that you have dumbbells that you can adjust heavier, as you will be lifting progressively heavier weights on the program. I recommend adjustable dumbbells by York. I have some in my home gym with long handles that can be adjusted up to 100lbs per dumbbell.

Here is the actual site for great dumbbells (I suggest the 18" or 24" length): http://www.newyorkbarbells.com/im-0030.html

Here are some high-quality generic dumbbells: http://amzn.to/2nPmV2U
**These DBs only go to 50lbs per side, which can be OK as you're starting out; however, you will get stronger quite quickly and need DBs that go heavier.

Although the program can be done with DBs alone, it's ideal to have access to a barbell, which enables you to do a wider range of exercises (Squats, Deadlifts, Rows, and Overhead Presses) - although a barbell is not strictly necessary.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Adjustable dumbbells that can go above 50lbs/DB
  • Adjustable weight bench

Suggested Equipment:

  • Adjustable dumbbells that can go above 50lbs/DB
  • Adjustable weight bench
  • Barbell with adjustable plates
  • Pull-up Bar
  • Squat Cage/Rack (more optional but very nice to have)
