What Protein Bars can I eat on plan?

Question:

What protein bars can I eat on plan?

Shorter Answer:

While nothing is better than actual food, sometimes we just need a quick and convenient snack. Enter protein bars! When choosing a bar, we want to make sure we select a high-quality bar with minimal-to-no sugar, artificial sweeteners, lower-quality protein, and filler junk.

Longer Answer:

Our absolute #1 recommendation would be Quest Bars (whey) or Now Cow Bars (vegan). They are full of protein and true fiber, with minimal sugar. Plus, they both use healthier sugar alternatives such as stevia, monk fruit, and/or sugar alcohols like erythritol. Quest/No Cow Bars can be found in most places, ranging from Amazon, to Target, to your local grocer. However, we understand not everyone has access to them so if looking to find alternatives, check out some ideas below:

  • RX Bars: Made from 100% food so no artificial taste as every bar comes with egg whites for protein. The downside is lower protein/fiber and a bar sweetened with fruit (dates) so there are higher amounts of sugar. Though the spikes are muted a bit due to the protein and healthy fat content.
  • Epic Bars: Made from 100% meat (venison, beef, salmon, bacon, etc.) While not as much protein as Quest/No Cow, you'll find more than RX while also avoiding anything artificial.
  • One Plant Bars: Similar to No Cow, these bars are vegan-based. Just lesser protein/fiber while still using natural sweeteners.
  • If none of these work, the basic staples to a healthy protein bar include:
    • Higher quality protein like whey/vegan-pea based (not soy)
    • Natural Sweeteners such as stevia, monk fruit, and/or erythritol...avoiding artificial sweeteners such as Sucralose
    • Minimal added sugars
    • No hidden sugars labeled as honey, agave syrup, brown rice syrup, and/or corn syrup
    • No food colorings or artificial dyes
    • Lastly if ever unsure, post to your Facebook group or email support@fitfatherproject.com and we can verify for you
