Can I skip the first meal?

Question:

Can I skip the first meal of the day? Can I wait until the afternoon to eat?

Short Answer:

Yes, the first meal can be skipped as long as the condensed eating window is providing enough energy throughout the day. Also, as long as you are not snacking/binging/grazing later on due to hunger, this approach is totally viable.

Longer Answer:

Delaying or skipping the first meal of the day is common version of daily Intermittent Fasting where your eating window is condensed into a shorter period, fasting the rest of the day. This is actually our Meal Plan #2/At-Home option as we recommend a 16/8 fasting protocol (fasting for 16 hours, eating in a condensed 8-hour window). However, some members ask if they can take it a step further and skip this first delayed meal, essentially only eating 2x for the day. This is also potentially OK if the following criteria are met:

  • You aren't crashing and binge eating later on
  • You have ample energy and are feeling good
  • You are sleeping well
  • Exercise is going well and you're seeing results
