[FF30X FAQ] What do I do about medications during fasting?
Because you're on FF30X Phase #2, you're familiar with our suggestions of incorporating a 1x/week dinner-to-dinner Intermittent Fast into your routine to improve your health and fat loss. 24-hour intermittent fasting has so much research backing its effectiveness (see linked research here).
You may be wondering... "Do I need to adjust my medication timing/schedule? Some of my medications need to be taken with food etc... What do I do on days I fast?"
Here's your big answer:
You need to speak with your prescribing doctor to get his/her advice on whether or not you need to make any changes.
Everyone's medication schedule is different.
- Some medications can simply be taken later in the day with your first meal (dinner).
- Other medications need to be taken at a similar time each day.
- Some medications (particularly if you're taking insulin or any other blood-sugar controlling medications) may need to have their dosages altered.
Talk to your doctor to ask him/her if you need to make any changes on days you fast. If he or she is not up-to-date on the research-backed benefits of fasting, you can send them this article that links to a review of the research.
Talk to your doctor. He/she is the person who can give you an answer on your particular situation.
The topic of how to change medications during fasting is discussed by so many people. In fact, here is an article from the Israeli government who has a particular interest in this topic as many Jews doing regular religious fasts - not too different than the intermittent fasting we do on FF30X. Here is their assessment of the situation:
